Specifications You Should Look for in a Projector

A projector is an investment. While projectors can come in many forms,
brands, kinds, and prices, quality is always important if you want a unit
that would project good display, give you good value, and last you for
years. Technical specifications and features aren’t as easy to understand
but knowing some of the main features would help you pick a good enough
projector for your personal or business requirements. Here are some factors
to consider.

Brightness

Great brands in projection technology always boast of their products that
offer optimal brightness and high-quality display. In the market today, the
ones with the higher brightness come with higher price tags, too. What you
need to understand about brightness in projector is how it relates to the
environment or venue you will be using. Whether it’s a meeting room,
classroom, auditorium, or large venue, there is a suitable type of
projector that caters to specific needs.

In technical specs, you can measure brightness through ANSI lumens. The
higher the lumens, the brighter the display. This will showcase clear and
crisp text and images, plus good graphics and color. To be able to choose
which one would best suit your needs, observe how much natural lighting you
have in your venue or meeting room. If you have a completely dark room, you
don’t have to get the projector with the highest ANSI lumens there is. If
your room has natural lighting from opened windows or artificial lighting
through fluorescents or light bulbs, you need a projector with good enough
brightness. Otherwise, your display may look washed out in natural or
ambient lighting.

Compatibility and Connectivity

Modern technology has paved the way for many kinds of electronic devices
from tablets, electronic whiteboards to touch screens, and other
peripherals. Connectivity and compatibility are always great features to
look for in a projector. With Wi-Fi connectivity and HDMI becoming a new
standard in electronics these days, you would fare better with a projector
that has these connectivity features. It would be both convenient and less
troublesome to connect various devices to your projector.

Lamp Hours

One of the things that differentiate a good projector from a low-end unit
is lamp hours. Units with low lamp hours have bulbs that can quickly wear
out and would need replacing. The good ones will last for 20,000 hours or
more.

The downside to getting a cheap projector with low lamp hours is that you
need to purchase a new bulb soon. For some projectors, it’s not easy to
find a compatible bulb for the unit, and for most cases, the price of a
bulb is half as much as the cost of the projector. In that sense, you will
actually be paying more for a low-end unit. That is why, as mentioned
above, a projector is an investment.

The Right Price for the Right Qualities

Projectors don’t always come with a cheap price tag, unless you’re buying
those unknown brands that barely reach the right standards. Luckily, more
and more trusted brands and models are offering a good line from
entry-level units to more advanced, high-end ones that are fit for larger
venues and unique requirements. Some entry-level models have the standard
qualities with a reasonable price.

Take note that if you want to get good quality technology, you have to
shell out a few more bucks for it. But with good sense and an effort to
compare reliable brands, types and prices of projectors out in the market
today, you might just get good value for less the price.
