After testing out the Optoma HD65 projector, I must say that it is one of
the best home theater projectors I have ever tried, producing one of the
most stunning pictures I’ve seen. I have used a lot more expensive
projectors at colleges and have installed home theater systems for family.
For a true home theater experience, a TV, even if it’s a plasma TV, just
won’t cut it. You need a HD projector. The Optoma HD65 turns your home into
a movie theater. No more paying for overpriced tickets and concessions.
Just invite over some friends, make a bag of popcorn and pop in a DVD for
an incredible home theater experience.
The Optoma HD65 projector works decently during the day, but it’s much more
fun to use it in the dark. The settings allow you to adjust the brightness
depending on the lighting and the type of image being used. From as close
as 10 feet away from the screen, the image size is about 80 inches. Now
let’s get into the details- the pros and cons of the HD65 projector.
Pros of the HD65 Projector
First, lets talk about the pros. The Optoma HD65 is easy to use, featuring
simple and intuitive controls. It can be set up in a flash right out of the
box and the image quality is nothing short of absolutely outstanding. It
projects a nicely balanced, film like image.
The Optoma HD65 is extremely light and portable. Weighing only a bit more
than four pounds, the Optoma HD65 can be taken with you where ever- on
vacation or to a friends. It is also a great option as a portable wide
screen business projector for presentation in smaller rooms. It can be
projected on a 15′ by 9′ screen, which is about 180 inches across. Even at
such a large size, the image quality still beats some HD TVs I’ve come
across. The ideal distance is 15-17 feet away from the screen.
It’s filter free design means very little maintenance. The HD65 also comes
with an easy to use remote control. The fan is very quiet, allowing you to
fully enjoy your beautiful full-HD picture. There are multiple inputs-
everything from HDMI to DVI to S-Video inputs- so you’ll have everything
you need for movies, TV, and gaming. Now I’ll mention some of the cons of
the Optoma HD65 projector.
Cons of the HD65 Projector
One thing that drives me nuts, and many others- as I have read in other
reviews- is that the backlit buttons on the remote control are way too
bright. There is no optical lens shift controller, so it’s a bit hard to
square up your projected image. The zoom is also pretty limited. Also, the
warranty lasts only a year. While this is becoming more and more typical,
there are some other companies that offer two or three year warranties.
In conclusion, the Optoma HD65 projector is a great choice. It packs a
powerful punch for its size. This projector is perfect for those who want a
project that will do the job, without spending too much money or time on it.
