How to Buy a Home Theatre Projector That Meets Your Needs

Like most people, I love watching movies. I try to go to the movies once a
month with my friends, as it provides a simple escape for all of us. We
were discussing several weeks ago about how amazing it would be if one of
us could have a home theatre. We could benefit from the entertainment,
laugh and cry together while watching movies, all from the comfort of our
own homes. Just for fun, I decided to investigate the possibility of owning
my own projector. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that with the
competition out there between companies, home theatres have become
relatively affordable.

Here are some tips for purchasing your own home theatre projector:

1) Type of Projector:

a) LCD (liquid crystal display) projectors: invented years ago; most
affordable; model can have a single LCD (liquid crystal display) to create
the images or three LCDs that often create a better picture

b) DLP (digital light processing) projectors: produce very rich colours and
excellent detail; often better picture quality than LCD projectors;
normally more expensive than LCD projectors

2) Contrast Ratio and Brightness:

Contrast Ratio: defined as the difference between the lightest and darkest
portions of an image. It is the most vital feature to consider when
shopping.

Brightness: measured in “lumens” – the higher the number, the brighter the
picture – consider the lighting in your room – ideally use projector in a
completely dark room

3) Aspect Ratio and Resolution

Aspect Ratio: Home theatre projectors are geared to play DVDs and Blu-rays
in the widescreen format, with a 16 to 9 aspect ratio, but they can play
full-screen movies as well.

Resolution: Defined as the number of pixels (dots of colour on screen) from
top to bottom and side to side of the image. High definition picture is now
the standard. The higher the resolution, the more expensive the projector.

4) Uniformity

Uniformity is defined as the percentage of brightness throughout the whole
projected image. Equal amounts of brightness is the ideal.

I wish you the best in your search for your own home theatre projector. I’m
looking forward to the evening when I can invite my friends over to my
place to watch some chick flicks from my home theatre!
