For any business event, be it a corporate presentation, a trade show, or a
training session, video equipment has become an essential component. And a
projector is a vital part of the video equipment that you rent. Since
display quality is vital for the success of your presentation, you should
choose the rental equipment with a lot of thought. Before you go for video
equipment rentals, you must first assess your needs carefully.
What you plan to display
An important point you need to consider is the sort of images you plan to
display. This is a crucial factor when choosing your projector. There are
basically two types of images you can show in a projector: static and
moving. Accordingly, projectors are sold as data and video projectors.
While a data projector is well equipped to display still images that
include photographs, presentations, PDF files, spreadsheets and the like.
Video projectors, as the name itself denotes, are much better equipped to
display moving images but are also capable of displaying still images with
no loss of quality. Depending on whether you plan to display static or
moving images or both, you will be making your choice as to which projector
Resolution of the projector
The resolution is another factor you need to consider while you look for a
projector. It is usually recommended that for good quality displays, the
resolution of the projector must match the resolution of the source.
Whether your source is a computer, a game box, DVD or Blu-ray player, you
must determine its resolution to find a projector of matching resolution
when you opt for video equipment rentals.
The type of images you plan to display also comes into play when you decide
the resolution of the projector. If you are dealing largely with still
images, then an 800 x 600 SVGA projector will suit your requirements quite
well. In case you plan to display videos, a 1080p projector is recommended.
1080p projectors can also be used for still displays if you are using
highly detailed images.
Type of projector
Projectors come in four primary types- DLP, LCOS, LCD and laser raster. Of
these, DLP and LCOS projectors are light and inexpensive, but project the
primary colors sequentially instead of all at once. As a result, you have
the ‘rainbow effect’, where light areas on the screen break into rainbows,
which can be annoying at times. You don’t find this problem with LCD
projectors, but they are bigger and heavier. Laser raster projectors are
relatively new in the market and they have one advantage- there is no need
of focusing the image.
You will also be considering the aspect ratio of your projector, i.e.
whether or not to go for a widescreen. That is, again, dependent on the
source. If your laptop is in widescreen format, then it is preferable that
you choose a projector that is widescreen adaptable. In case you are
projecting videos, the aspect ratio of the particular video will determine
the projector type, when you go for video equipment rentals.
